Meet Our Team

Our team is made up of three veterinarians, and five veterinary nurses. Dr Ashley and Dr Jenny Kai took over the practice in 2012 and have enjoyed working with the people of Leopold and surrounds, to give their pets the best possible veterinary care. We aspire to treat your pets like they were one of our own.

Dr. Ashley Kai

Practice Owner (BSc Post Grad Dip (Education) BVSc (Hons))

Dr. Ashley graduated from The University of Melbourne in 2005 and is the practice owner. Since graduation in 2005 Dr Ash has worked in a variety of clinics, including mixed practice and then settling into small animal clinics. Having worked in the industry both in Australia and the USA, he has gained a wide variety of knowledge. After a year of locuming from Victoria up to Townsville, he has seen a wide variety of cases. Since settling into Geelong he has fallen in love with the region. He regularly attends international veterinary conferences to further develop his skills and allows us to offer leading evidence based options for patients in his care. Dr Ash has two pets - a dog named Kahea and a cat named Wosky Dude. Outside of work, Dr Ash is a keen fly fisherman and enjoys the beautiful landscapes and great outdoors.

Dr. Kate Cochrane

Veterinarian (BVSc (Hons))

Kate graduated from the University of Sydney in 2002 with a bachelor of Veterinary Science (Hons II). During her time as a vet, Kate has lived and worked throughout NSW and Victoria, initially in large mixed practice. She then settled into small animal practice in 2006 after the birth of her first child.

Kate and her family (Craig, Katrina and Bradley) moved to Geelong in 2008, where she then joined the Leopold Pet Hospital family. She was drawn to the clinic because of the family feel, where quality veterinary medicine was partnered with a genuine love of the human-animal bond, and each patient that walked through the door.

Kate has a strong interest in oncology and surgery. She continues to update her skills and knowledge, recently completing the University of Sydney Post Graduate Oncology course and the Quadam course in soft tissue surgical procedures.

Outside of work, Kate will either be found at a basketball stadium with her family (who are all keen players), or outside training herself for triathlons. She is a very passionate Hawthorn supporter and tries to get to as many games as she can. Kate currently has Prince the cat (her first born child!) and Buzz Lightyear - a Griffon Bruxellois, who loves to come to work and play with Kahea.

Kate has worked for and alongside many wonderful vets and vet nurses over the years. She has been greatly influenced and inspired by her boss at Bega Veterinary Clinic - Peter Alexander, who's enthusiasm for the profession, the people in it, and the continued drive to learn, listen and respect emanates through everything he does. It was paramount to Kate to find a clinic in Geelong that lived up to these standards, and why she chose Leopold Pet Hospital to work for.

Dr. Jenny Kai

Veterinary Practice Manager (BSc BVSc (Hons))

Jenny graduated from The University of Melbourne in 2004 with honors. She worked in mixed animal practice for a few years in both Australia and the United Kingdom. After returning to Australia, Jenny and her husband Ash, locumed up to Townsville and back while living in a tiny caravan. After falling in love with the region, in 2010 they moved to Geelong, and Jenny took a full time position at the University of Melbourne in the Emergency and Critical Care department. Once they opened the Geelong Animal Emergency branch, Jenny worked there full time. In 2012 Ashley and Jenny took over ownership of Leopold Pet Hospital, and Jenny balanced working part time at the Emergency Clinic and part time in her management role at Leopold.

Jenny still works part time at the Emergency Clinic (Now run by Advanced Vet Care), and balances work, spending time with their daughter "Tamiko" and also looking after their dog "Kahea", cat "Wosky Dude", and two horses "Herbie" and "Sana". Jenny enjoys low level competition riding.

Megan Anderson

Veterinary Nurse (BSc, Certificate IV (Veterinary Nursing))

Megan has joined our team after completing her degree in Science, majoring in Zoology from Deakin University. Growing up on a cattle farm, she has always wanted to work with animals, so it was an easy decision to pursue a career in veterinary nursing. She came to the clinic as a client initially, and loved the personal care the clinic provided to its clients, going above and beyond. After being accepted into the veterinary nursing course she gained placement, and Megan was then offered a job at the clinic. She completed her Certificate IV in Veterinary nursing in 2015. Megan loves her job, mainly being able to help animals and being able to get to know their owners and be there for them. Her parents have been a huge support, helping her achieve her best. “There is no such word as “can’t”, which is why Megan has been so successful in her career to date.

Megan has a Staffordshire Bull Terrier named Molly, a cat “Pawdrey Hepburn” and two rabbits, “Splinter and Roger”. In her spare time she enjoys relaxing at home with her husband and fur children.

Caitlyn grew up in Geelong and followed her passion for caring for animals. In 2014 she completed her Certificate II in Veterinary Nursing. It was after her placement at the practice that she was offered employment at the Leopold Pet Hospital. Her love of giving special care to our patients, means that she has fit right into the team. She enjoys the continuity of care at the practice, meeting new puppies, kittens and following their journey into adulthood. Caitlyn enjoys assisting clients in the care, health and wellbeing of their beloved pets. She is currently studying her Certificate IV in Veterinary Nursing.  When not at the clinic, she works part time at a hairdressing salon and is a fully qualified hairdresser.
